Responsible for the day to day operations of JCU’s teaching, research and accommodation facilities located on Orpheus Island.
JCU is committed to creating a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide through graduates and discoveries that make a difference, we now have an opportunity for committed professional to work as the Manager, Orpheus Island Research Station, who is committed to delivering high-quality leadership and outcomes for JCU’s Orpheus Island Research Station (OIRS).
Manager, OIRS is a unique opportunity is like no other – you will live and work on the island on a rostered basis, manage a small but dedicated team, host visitors and researchers, coordinate operations and logistics whilst identifying longer term station utilisation and business opportunities.
Given the diverse nature of this role you may be from an academic research background and see this as an opportunity to expand your research portfolio whilst taking on management, leadership and business development responsibilities.
Alternatively, if your background is in operations management you will be eager to develop your understanding of research and conservation to truly appreciate the critical nature of research station outcomes not only for JCU but the preservation of the reef and marine life for many years to come.
Irrespective of your background, you will bring with you the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, building positive working relationships. You take personal responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of others and are committed to ensuring the efficient and effective running of the research station in line with legislative and regulatory obligations.
