About the role

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow/ Research Officer will work within a successful research team that has a proven track record in high quality research outcomes in the area of immunology of tuberculosis.  You will investigate particular aspects of host immunity with important implications for tuberculosis vaccine development.  This is a full-time, grant-supported position for up three years and may be extended to four years based upon satisfactory progress.

Key duties:

  • Execute projects in the immunology of tuberculosis and vaccine development;
  • Effectively monitor and report progress against agreed milestones, including grant-related milestones.;
  • Report and present project outcomes via peer-reviewed publications and national/international conference presentations.

About you

As someone with either a PhD in immunology or microbiology, or the relevant work experience as a Research Assistant, you will want to make a difference to the lives of people in the tropics worldwide by successfully creating a new vaccine against Tuberculosis.

You will also:

  • Have, or are willing to acquire, sound knowledge, of biosafety issues regarding handling of highly pathogenic bacteria and PC-3 laboratory practice.
  • Have experience in cellular and molecular immunology, mouse work, histology, bacteriology and molecular biology, including in vivo infection models and gene cloning techniques;
  • Have expertise in working with Mycobacterium tuberculosis or other animal models of infection, cell culture, T cell fractionation techniques and multi-parametric flow cytometry;
  • Have the ability to travel frequently to our JCU campus in Townsville.
