RESEARCH SCIENTIST AT NAL

SUMMARY
The National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL) is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Behavioural Scientist to work on world-leading research focused on changing the lives of people with hearing loss. This is an opportunity for an experienced and creative individual to join our existing team of behavioural scientists and collaborate with other NAL scientists, working together to perform cutting-edge research in behaviour change in relation to hearing healthcare services, prevention of noise-induced hearing loss and other aspects of hearing health that involve decision-making.

NAL (https://www.nal.gov.au/) is a world-leading research centre whose research has had a worldwide impact on the treatment of hearing loss. Located in Sydney Australia, NAL’s laboratories and offices are in the Australian Hearing Hub on the Macquarie University campus.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess:
Education

  • A PhD in a relevant area with focus on behavioural economics, behaviour change theory, health promotion or psychology

Experience

  • At least 5 years of postdoctoral research in behavioural economics, behaviour change or related field
  • Extensive experience leading successful research projects from initiation to publication
  • Strong practical research skills, including the use of quantitative and qualitative methods, and statistics software
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop new research ideas that meet NAL’s strategic objectives
  • Design and conduct behavioural research that will lead to innovative breakthroughs in understanding hearing health behaviours and levels of motivation among individuals to engage in protective hearing behaviours.
  • Develop online surveys, conduct focus groups, and field-based observations, literature reviews, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and randomised controlled trials
  • Analyse data and interpret results
  • Prepare internal reports, publish research in scientific journals and present results at conferences
  • Collaborate on research projects with researchers at NAL’s partner organisations
  • Prepare and submit grant applications
  • Provide behavioural science expertise to the whole of NAL
