THE OPPORTUNITY
The Manager, Ethics and Biosafety is a senior managerial position. The primary role is to ensure the University community understands and is compliant with its obligations under the new Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and a range of Federal, State and local legislation that govern research conduct in the areas of animal welfare, human ethics, gene technology, and biosafety. The position also provides management and leadership of the Human Ethics, Biosafety, Radiation Safety and Animal Ethics areas. Recently there has been significant growth in Deakin Research in areas requiring animal welfare, human ethics and gene technology clearance. In addition, the advent of the Deakin Medical School, the Geelong Technology Precinct and the growth in activities involving partner organisations, mean that there is anticipated further growth in research that would require compliance with these legislations. The position of Manager, Ethics and Biosafety has consequently been developed to encompass the new Code and provide overall management of matters pertaining to animal welfare, human ethics and gene technology and other biosafety issues. The position will be recognised as a senior leader at the Deakin Research Burwood campus.
