About University Services

University Services comprises of 1,500 professional staff focused on providing client centric and innovative services to the University. The group is providing transformational change, defining and influencing future service enhancements within the University of Melbourne. The Human Ethics Officer is a member of the Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Team which sits within the University Services portfolio.

About the role

In support of the University's research agenda, the Human Research Ethics Officer will effectively and efficiently manage the business of, and act as secretary to, one of the three University discipline based Human Ethics Sub Committees (HESCs). The Officer will provide specialist advice to the HESC Chair, committee members, researchers and relevant Human Ethics Advisory Groups (HEAGs) on ethical issues relating to research, legislation, application process and procedures facilitating ethics review at the University.

We are seeking an experienced Human Research Officer to join the ethics team in the Office for Research Ethics and Integrity, Research Innovation and Commercialisation, University Services. The position acts as secretary to one of the human research ethics committee at the University of Melbourne and requires a sound knowledge of the requirements of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and an understanding of ethical issues around qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. This interesting role requires an organised and efficient person who can communicate well both verbally and in writing.

To be successful in this role you will be passionate about continuous improvement and innovation with a proven record of influencing and engaging others with your leadership skills. Your strong customer centric focus will ensure you build strong working relationships.

About you

- Undergraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience

- Knowledge of the requirements of the National Statement, relevant Commonwealth and State legislation and external regulatory bodies.

- A sound understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and related ethical issues.

- Proven ability to thrive in a changing and fast paced environment
