RESEARCH SCIENTIST – HORTICULTURE SYSTEMS

  • $78,773 - $89,375 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term until 30 June 2019
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Mildura (flexibility may be available)

The position of Research Scientist – Horticulture Systems is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research Division in the Employment, Investment and Trade Group.

The Employment, Investment and Trade Group delivers programs and services to grow the Victorian economy.  Its focus is on creating jobs and raising incomes through industry development, targeted investment and increasing the export value of Victorian firms.

The role of this position is to develop improved productions systems and practices for the perennial horticultural sector in north-west Victoria, with a particular focus on the almond and grape industries.  The position provides the opportunity to interact with colleagues across the Department as well as other R&D agencies.  You will be responsible for project milestone and final reports, scientific publications and presentations to peers, stakeholders and the scientific community. You will manage scientific, technical and casual staff, and financial and physical resources within projects to ensure delivery of research outputs.

Do you have extensive knowledge of perennial tree and grapevine physiology, phenology and management systems?  Do you have experience in dealing with the range of people involved in the horticultural sector – industry leaders, industry bodies, producers?  If so, this may be the role for you.  We are seeking candidates with ability to undertake field experiments on physiological responses of perennial plants to different management systems and to different climates.  The successful applicant will have an established record of publication and communication of research findings.  A degree in science, agricultural science, or an equivalent science qualification is required.
