Our Undergraduate Vacation Studentships  are run over the Australian summer holidays and offer high achieving and promising undergraduate students the opportunity to collaborate with CSIRO researchers in our world class facilities.

As the successful candidate, you will have the chance to work on a real project in science, technology or a related field such as science communication.

CSIRO’s SME Connect connects Australian small to medium sized enterprises/businesses (SMEs) with Australia's research sector, facilitating and enabling innovation-driven partnerships through funding, support and resources.   The SME Connect team have the following vacation studentship available:

Project Description

The SME Connect team is implementing data analysis solutions to track the success of our program and to better demonstrate the reach and impact the SME Connect team has for SMEs. This work includes creating and maintaining databases with dashboards and spreadsheets and obtaining statistics of the SME Connect programs for reporting.

Project Duties/Tasks

The student will support the SME Program Advisor with the following tasks: 

(1) Engage with the CRM team to enter new customers in Dynamics. 
(2) Create and update new dashboards and spreadsheets. 
(3) Obtain statistics of the SME Connect programs. 
(4) Engage with the SME Connect team members. 
(5) Write a report and make a presentation in the end of the term.

Location:  Clayton, VIC
Stipend:  $1,655.32 per fortnight
Duration: Placements are full time for 8 - 12 weeks between late November and February

Vacation studentships are intended for students who:

  • are enrolled in an undergraduate degree at an Australian university
  • have completed 3 years (full-time equivalent) of an undergraduate course, however exceptional second-year students may be considered;
  • have a strong academic record (credit average or higher)
  • intend to pursue a research career in science or technology, or a career in a related discipline; and
  • are able to undertake a full-time placement for 8-12 weeks over the university summer vacation period.

Eligibility

Applications for these studentships are open to Australian and New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and International students who have full work rights for the duration of the placement (do not require visa sponsorship).

Appointment to this role may be subject to conditions including provision of a national police check as well as other security/medical/character clearance requirements.

  1. submit a Resume/CV and Cover Letter (as one document) in the ‘Resume/CV field which includes:
    • the reasons why the research project/s you have selected are of interest to you and how your skills/knowledge meet the project requirements; and
    • an outline of your longer-term career aspirations and how this program will help you achieve them.
  2. upload your academic results in the ‘Cover Letter’ field;
  3. in the ‘Education’ section select your university from the Educational Institute list; 
  4. in the ‘Job-Specific Information’ section select ‘Not Applicable’ for both Preference 1 and Preference 2;; and enter your Grade Point Average (GPA) as per the University Admission Centre’s methodology.  If you have a WAM, please read the Methodology on this site and calculate a GPA using the formula provided.
