The Business Development Manager provides administrative and management services to support the effective provision of research and development activities for CSIRO’s Indigenous Science and Engagement Program. The role will be responsible for establishing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations across Australia to identify science challenges, issues and research CSIRO can support.

Your duties will include:

  • Act as a trusted advisor, understanding the client’s business and seeking information about the real underlying needs of Indigenous people and communities, and identify and adapt quickly to changes in clients’ needs and market changes.
  • Within broad guidelines negotiate and support the team to secure external funds, have sound understanding of CSIRO goals and activities, be a member of and provide strategic advice to the management team, and establish and maintain networks beneficial to the achievement of the Indigenous Science and Engagement program.
  • Influence the Business Unit’s strategic decisions and aligning the goals of their function with the broader ISEP goals, and contribute to and influence organisational policy and action.

Location: Negotiable - any CSIRO site across Australia 
Salary: AU$141k - AU$157k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in a relevant area such as science, business or Indigenous engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify, build and develop business relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities on Country.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing business development leadership, developing strategy and delivering beneficial growth and change for organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience in originating, negotiating and contracting business opportunities in an Indigenous context including transaction lifecycle and complex transaction types.
  • Commercial judgment and demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain strong professional and collaborative working relationships across a wide range of disciplines and the ability to lead commercial transactions
