CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

The CERC Fellow will join a multidisciplinary team working within the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC), part of CSIRO Health and Biosecurity, and the School of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The role will be based in the CSIRO Medical Image Analysis team within the Biomedical Informatics group with extensive collaboration with the ultrasound physics group at QUT.

The CERC Fellow will be part of an international, multi-disciplinary research team with expertise in: medical image analysis, medical physics, AI/ML, clinical translation and biomedical engineering.  The CERC Fellow will conduct novel, world class research to develop foundation technologies for the development of 3D medical image reconstruction from wearable ultrasound devices.

Your duties will include:

  • Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Developing innovative concepts, ideas, and algorithms for the generation of 2D and 3D image reconstruction from wearable capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers (CMUTs).
  • Communicating results in high quality journals, conferences, and client reports.
  • Supporting the drafting of patents to protect Intellectual Property as needed.

Salary:   AU$89k - AU$98k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as medical imaging, computer vision, or medical physics.  Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience after PhD completion.
  • Demonstrated performance in developing, implementing, and validating new medical image analysis algorithms or computer vision systems with strong skills in analytical thinking.
  • Demonstrated competency in Python and/or C++ and software development processes and environments (including gcc, CMake, git).
  • The ability to work effectively within a clinical environment and as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian/New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian temporary resident currently residing in Australia and be able to commence in the role by 30 June 2022.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and provide a National Police Check or equivalent. Additional integrity checks may be required for specific roles which require security clearance for working with children, Australian Government cybersecurity requirements or other identified security roles.
