CSIRO’s Land & Water is seeking a driven and highly motivated Community Engagement and Information Program Consultant to be a part of an exciting research program in collaboration with Northern Territory Government. The Program aims to develop and implement a community information and engagement program to provide independent, credible, evidence-based information to a variety of communities.

In this role, you will be collaborating with multi-disciplinary stakeholders including the Northern Territory Government, Northern Territory Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS), Aboriginal communities, traditional Aboriginal owners, Native Title Holders, land councils and the regulators. This is a unique opportunity for you to drive the program by using your professional network within the local and Indigenous communities within the gas and mining industry to develop exemplary communication methods that aim to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate materials.

If you have experience working closely with the communities of the Northern Territory region and would like to independently lead a program onsite in Darwin with full support and collaboration from CSIRO’s research team across the state, then this role is for you!

Your duties will include:

• Leading the Community Engagement and Information Program in consultation and collaboration with a multiple internal and external stakeholder.
• Consulting and influencing a variety of critical stakeholders and building appropriate relationship as per the project requirements.
• Developing project plans in consultation with clients and validating report results as appropriate.
• Collecting information and testing information and building the suite of materials/information tools for research and beyond.
• Planning and implementing change regarding the approaches for sharing information in a culturally and linguistically sensitive way.

Location: Darwin, NT
Salary: AU$117k – AU$138k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of up to 5 years

To be considered you will need:

• A PhD (or an equivalent combination of qualifications and research experience) or other relevant qualification in subject areas relevant to onshore gas, mining transitions, regional economic transformation, energy, waste management or sustainable development, and significant experience and depth of understanding of science from a research or industry perspective.
• Experience identifying, developing and leading large research projects and/or commercial opportunities
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies, cultures and the issues affecting these cultures in Australian society as well as a demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• A history of maintaining existing relationships and ability to build new networks
• Current open-class driver’s license

Eligibility

To be eligible to work in CSIRO you must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or either hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and provide a National Police Check or equivalent. Additional integrity checks may be required for specific roles which require security clearance for working with children, Australian Government cybersecurity requirements or other identified security roles.
