CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Genetics and Genomics of Tropical Feral Cattle
CSIRO acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, sea and waters, of the area that we live and work on across Australia. We acknowledge their continuing connection to their culture and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. View our?vision towards reconciliation.
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
This Genetics and Genomics of Tropical Feral Cattle project will build on recent achievements of CSIRO Animal Genomics team. More specifically, within the theme of natural selection and tropical adaptation.
In northern Australia, European cattle, firstly managed in very extensive pastoral properties, have become feral. Now they thrive in one of the harshest ecosystems. These feral cattle offer unique opportunities to study adaptive evolution in real time and to inform ongoing efforts towards adaptive and resilient livestock.
The chief aims of this project are the development and application of breakthrough analytics for the detection of genomics regions linked to tropical adaptation, the identification of candidate causal mutations, their validation and further use in guided selection for improved resilience in cattle.
