The Opportunity
CSIRO Mineral Resources’ Magnetic Resonance Development Team are looking to appoint a Magnetic Resonance Physicist/Scientist to work in the Lucas Heights laboratory located on the southern edge of Sydney. The Magnetic Resonance Physicist/Scientist will perform research to develop novel magnetic resonance (MR)-based on-line instruments to solve a range of challenging, real-world problems in the mining industry. A significant on-going project includes the development of magnetic resonance analysers for rapid measurement of minerals in bulk ores. The Magnetic Resonance Physicist/Scientist will also contribute to existing projects related to field prototypes of large-scale MR sensors in industry.
The position offers considerable variety, tackling scientific, engineering and logistical challenges. The Magnetic Resonance Physicist/Scientist is encouraged to use or develop their own skills and expertise to contribute to existing projects and to contribute to new capability development in the MR research area. Such areas currently include low-field NMR and high-power radiofrequency techniques. The position would ideally suit a person with an excellent theoretical understanding of physics concepts and an interest in developing ideas to move from the laboratory to industry applications. Significant work will involve planning experiments and operating MR systems in the laboratory.
