HSE Adviser

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) partners with all levels of the organisation, coaching and influencing to make safety personal. They provide future focussed, leading-edge development and delivery of HSE programs that result in significant improvement in CSIRO’s wellbeing and safety culture. 

We are looking for two HSE Advisers to join our team. One role will be based in Hobart and responsible for the VIC/TAS region; the other will based in Perth and responsible for the WA/SA/ACT region. Reporting to the relevant HSE Manager, you will be responsible for delivering HSE services regionally and providing technical and practical HSE support to research staff, affiliates, leadership teams, corporate citizens, operational managers and other stakeholders. Your focus will be on delivering consistent education, training, regulatory advice and solutions to the organisation that will improve regional safety and wellbeing and enhance personal accountability for HSE. 

Your duties will include:
  • Supporting the implementation of CSIRO’s HSE strategy through the planning and delivery of priority HSE activities and initiatives, with a focus on organisational consistency across CSIRO sites.
  • Contributing to HSE projects and positively challenge the status quo to influence continual HSE improvement across the organisation.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with site work groups, understanding their unique HSE needs and making recommendations to guide management decisions.
  • Contributing to a cohesive, collaborative and innovative HSE team, providing hands-on HSE practical support to operational staff, and liaising with the HSE Specialist team when more specialist HSE support is required.

Location: 1 x Perth, WA and 1 x Hobart, TAS
Salary: AU$86k - AU$94k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
  • Relevant tertiary degree in a related discipline such as Science, Health, Safety & Environment, Risk Management, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • A current Australian driver’s licence and the ability to travel between sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with stakeholders and other HSE teams to promote the desired culture and achieve team objectives. 
  • Experience in leading, and participating in, ongoing knowledge transfer across HSE teams, and providing support and direction to team members through coaching and fostering open communication. 
  • Previous experience in contributing to the design, delivery and implementation of communication strategies (e.g. training) to deliver a consistent HSE message across the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation and regulatory standards to proactively identify problems and appropriately respond to issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner and enhance performance by continually improving the delivery of a consistent, best practice HSE service.
