The Position
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists who have completed their doctorate and have less than two years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
Obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D) are significant risk factors for the development of chronic disease. Our research project within CSIRO’s Nutrition and Health Program aims to increase understanding of the effects of dietary composition for the management of these health priorities, and how particular interventions may impact on metabolism at the molecular level.
In this Postdoctoral Fellowship, you will gain a unique opportunity to catalyse integration of these capabilities across CSIRO Health and Biosecurity to facilitate further development of this research area. Research outcomes are expected to be applied to the development of robust technologies for improved dietary intervention; aiming to advance concepts in clinical practice in the prevention and treatment of these chronic diseases.
Your duties will include
- Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
- Undertaking a discovery experiment utilising a variety of cell models to dissect the key regulators and sentinel molecules involved in the insulin signalling, tracking through to activation of key pathways, glucose transport and protein synthesis
- Building on experiments and designing appropriate pre-clinical (rodent including knockout mouse models) and clinical (human) studies to test the relevance of the identified key pathway regulators to predict for a dietary response.

Salary: AU$86K - AU$94K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need
- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as molecular and/or cellular biology, physiology, nutrition and/or clinical nutrition. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or part time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
- Experience in molecular, cellular, and/or Nutritional Sciences, clinical nutrition or physiology.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team.
- A high level of communication skills with the ability to represent the research team at national and international conferences.
- A sound history of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports, grant applications or patents.
