CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Non-Responsive Coeliac Disease

The Opportunity

• Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO
• Investigate non-traditional triggers of non-responsive coeliac disease

• Receive training in omics technologies (transcriptomics, proteomics)

CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

As a postdoctoral fellow with CSIRO Agriculture and Food, you will be supported by senior research scientists on an exciting project relating to non-responsive coeliac disease (NRCD). Despite adherence to a strict gluten-free diet, in individuals affected by NRCD, intestinal damage persists and contributes to patient morbidity, impaired quality of life and increased risk of complications such as lymphoma. Your focus on this project will be to define the non-traditional triggers of NRCD using transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, cell biology and immunology.

You will

• Recognise and exploit opportunities for innovation.
• Utilise design thinking methodology to plan and prepare research proposals.

• Apply non-academic impact methodology to research projects.
• Characterise non-traditional gluten-like grains by performing comprehensive integrated ‘omic’ analyses.
• Explore the immunotoxic potential of non-traditional gluten-like grains.
• Utilise in vitro gastrointestinal digestion and cell-based nutrient transport models to provide an understanding of protein digestion and transport.
• Collaborate with a world-leading immunology laboratory to conduct assays and determine the role of specific protein families in NRCD.
• Use bioinformatics to define protein components that correlate with NRCD outcomes.

Location:           St Lucia (Brisbane) Queensland
Salary:               AU $86k to AU $94k per annum, plus up to 15.4%                                             superannuation

Tenure:              3 year term (or part-time equivalent)
Reference No.:   61550

To be considered you will hold a doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as proteomics, protein biochemistry, transcriptomics, data science, or immunology. You will also have

• Experience in liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS), preferably LC-MS/MS based proteomics.
• Experience in protein biochemistry.

• Experience in bioinformatics and/or data science relevant to protein analysis.
• High-level communication skills including the ability to present research outcomes at national and/or international conferences.
• The ability to work effectively both in a team and individually.
• A sound record of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers or reports.
