Research Projects Officer - Tiltmeter Monitoring

The Position

CSIRO’s Energy is seeking to appoint a research projects officer in their Tiltmeter Monitoring area.

As the successful candidate you will be on the deployment and data analysis for an automated tilt monitoring system currently used in the field to monitor hydraulic fracture growth, CO2 injection, reservoir drawdown and mining induced deformations. You will also be involved in the development, design, and testing (laboratory and field) of ultra-high resolution tiltmeter components and other sensors.

Your duties will include

  • Deploy, monitor and maintain CSIRO automated tilt monitoring arrays at client field sites.
  • Establish and maintain communication links to allow two-way data transfer from remote field sites to CSIRO servers.
  • Filter, process and QC/QA data gathered from sensor arrays.
  • Create and deliver client reports showing analysis results.
  • Develop and upgrade CSIRO monitoring hardware and software systems to progress the development of instument sensors and the efficiency of data processing and analysis.

Location:      Clayton VIC
Salary:          AU$63,594 - AU$80,937 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in electrical or mechatronics engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with standard hardware development process, including component selection/evaluation, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • Significant demonstrated experience with microcontroller programming (e.g. PSoC Creator, Atmel-ICE, CodeWarrior, Arduino IDE).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing GUIs for real-time data visualization
  • Demonstrated expertise in design, development and deployment of high-resolution monitoring sensors
