The Position

Commercialisation is a key supporting function of the CSIRO strategic goal of being Australia’s Innovation Catalyst. Its objective is to work seamlessly to provide co-ordinated, high level commercial support to business units to help connect science and business, to deliver value for customers and provide effective strategic and transaction support in planning and delivering profound innovation within the framework of good governance and a sound understanding of the risk and reward. Transactions range from royalty-bearing licenses, commercialisation of platform technologies and creation of spin-outs (company formation) through to working with spin-out companies to execute commercialisation strategies.

As a Commercialisation Analyst, you will support the Commercialisation Team by providing high quality market, client, industry and competitor analysis and insights to inform business decision-making and drive commercialisation strategies and transaction development. You will need to be hands-on, motivated, and well-organised, with strong communication, research, business planning, and financial modelling skills.

Please note: The person appointed to this role will need to lodge a National Police Check and receive clearance before commencing.

Your duties will include

  • Identification, analysis, interpretation and presentation of metrics and data to form insights and input to decision making.
  • Coordinating information from various systems and stakeholders, including identifying problems or quality issues with the information presenting recommendations to line manager.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide pro-active support to business development and commercialisation activities through market research & analysis and patent analysis, financial analysis and modelling.
  • Actively engage with external information providers and staff from across the organisation to access/collect relevant and accurate information
  • Provide detailed and accurate information/reports based on solid quantitative and qualitative evidence. Where solid evidence is not available, the role is expected to be able to draw conclusions based on the information available.

Location:  Melbourne (Clayton), VIC preferred; Sydney may be considered
Salary: AU$95k - AU$105k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need

  • A tertiary qualification in science, engineering and business, commerce or related field and/or equivalent significant experience, preferably in a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong financial modelling and numeracy skills.
  • The ability to source, evaluate, synthesise and analyse a broad range of qualitative and quantitative data to form insights and input to decision making through written business reports and analysis.
  • Skills, knowledge and understanding of reporting, data modelling & retrieval techniques and business analysis concepts.
  • To be proactive and use your problem solving skills to investigate and solve complex and ill-defined problems in a professional and timely manner.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve results.
  • The ability to be flexible and manage conflicting tasks in order to achieve desired outcomes to satisfy client expectations.
