The position:
As a Fermentation Scientist with CSIRO Manufacturing, you will use your extensive knowledge and experience in fermentation and microbiology to support research scientists in our Industrial Biotechnology team. Developing fermentation processes and implementing process optimisation protocols, you will work on a diverse range of microorganisms with a variety of applications. You will independently design and deliver experimental plans that move laboratory processes towards scale-up and ultimately manufacture. Your expertise in bioreactor operation and control and a clearly demonstrated ability to seek innovative solutions to process development, will be required to improve process yields, efficacy, etc. Of particular importance will be your ability to troubleshoot issues and limitations with equipment and processes that ultimately lead to successful outcomes for the team’s projects. You will use your well-developed communication skills to foster close collaboration with team members, other CSIRO scientists and external stakeholders.
Using your strong capacity for independent thought and innovation, you will:

The Industrial Biotechnology team functions in a highly competitive commercial environment and has a research program directed towards the use of organisms and enzymes to manufacture a wide variety of different biological products. Leveraging state of the art equipment and infrastructure, a diverse array of skills and working in collaboration with a number of internal and external stakeholders, the team develops products and processes with diverse applications for the pharmaceutical, food, agricultural and chemicals industries.
Location: Clayton (Melbourne) Victoria
Salary: AU $97k to AU $105k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

As a minimum requirement, you will hold a relevant undergraduate or master’s degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biochemical Engineering or similar field and have clearly demonstrated experience in fermentation process development and application. Specifically:
