Executive Officer - CSIRO Growth

The Opportunity

As the Executive Officer for CSIRO’s Growth Sector, you will play an integral role in the Leadership team, providing high level support in the management, strategy and administration of the Office of the Executive Director, Growth. This hands-on role requires a proactive, resilient individual with strong communication and planning skills. Using your unique ability to efficiently prioritise a large number of complex and competing issues, you will manage and deliver projects and tasks within rapidly changing timeframes. 

For success in this role, you will think strategically, operationally and analytically, and have a proven capacity to work within a senior management team in a complex organisational environment.  You will be highly flexible, possess a “can do/will find a way to do” attitude and maintain a positive outlook when working in a challenging and fast moving environment, both inside CSIRO and externally.

Working closely with the Executive Director (ED) and the leadership team, you will manage the sector’s strategic and operational planning processes and monitor the Sector’s performance.  Drawing on your strong problem solving skills, you will support the Executive Director in identifying and resolving issues, as well as recognising opportunities for improvement across the Growth Sector.  On occasion you may be required to formally represent the Chief Operating Officer.

The role will involve domestic travel on an as needs basis.

Your duties will include

  • The provision of high-level support and advice to the ED Growth.
  • Identifying and prioritising issues, and briefing the ED to facilitate effective action.
  • Establishing collaborative and influential relationships with Leadership Team colleagues, and maintaining effective cross-organisational networks.
  • Representing the Growth sector on enterprise working groups and change initiatives.
  • Working with the Executive team to develop effective strategy.
  • Planning and coordinating events and Executive meetings.
  • Coordinating day-to-day processes, responses and reporting requirements, and project managing sensitive or complex activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with CSIRO processes and other legislative requirements.
  • Coordinating strategic and operational Growth plans and managing submissions to support key projects.
  • Developing, editing and reviewing papers for Executive and Board meetings.
  • Complete projects related to the Growth area as required.

Location:             Clayton (Melbourne) Victoria or Canberra ACT
Other locations may be considered.
Salary:                  AU $111k – AU $130k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered, you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification or have equivalent management/leadership experience in an area relevant to the Growth Sector.

You will also have:

  • Financial acumen, solid change/project/portfolio management experience.
  • A willingness to undertake a National Police Check prior to commencement (if successful).
  • An awareness of CSIRO’s science & priorities.
  • The ability to handle confidential or sensitive material and deal with matters with absolute discretion.
  • The ability to communicate with impact, a history of professional behaviours and strategic relationship building skills.
  • A confident and pro-active approach with the ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate widely.
  • The ability to formulate and prepare a wide range of strategic and government communications, and present findings influentially to senior leaders.
  • Very strong problem solving skills with the ability to investigate underlying issues of complex problems and develop appropriate responses.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to independently manage competing complex demands, establish or renegotiate priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in successful project management.
