Senior Research Scientist - Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health

The Position

CSIRO Health and Biosecurity is seeking an innovative and forward thinking scientist with experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research to work with scientists across the business to identify opportunities, develop and deliver projects that close the gap in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and education outcomes. This role will require the successful candidate to work with other innovative researchers in a leading government organisation which is engaged in world class scientific research projects and offers excellent career development and professional support. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to translate their research into practice with impact on both Australian and international e-Health programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Incorporating novel approaches to scientific study by adapting and/or developing original concepts and ideas into existing and future research.
  • To provide appropriate cultural advice and assistance across the BU with particular attention to the Nutrition & Health and eHealth programs.
  • To assist in the sourcing and supporting of Indigenous interns and cadets; and provide culturally appropriate advice for all scientists working on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
  • To support the CSIRO Health and Biosecurity leadership team in application of the Reconciliation Action Plan principles

Location: Herston, Brisbane QLD
Salary: AU $109k to AU $128k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Indefinite

To be successful you will need:

  • A doctorate and recent research experience in an area relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
  • Experience in culturally relevant project management, strategy development and health research
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing research projects from inception to delivery, especially within a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed team
  • Ability to communication cross-culturally, especially in regards to Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Established, relevant networks including relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and Government Departments
