Research Scientist - Muscle Foods

The Position: 
CSIRO Agriculture is looking to appoint a motivated Research Scientist who will work as part of the Meat Science team providing research leadership in the area of muscle foods e.g. Structure-function relationships, meat biochemistry. The successful candidate will have responsibility in leading internally and externally funded strategic and applied research projects, as well as building relationships with industry and academic stakeholders. The role will also require practical knowledge about novel processing technologies that are relevant to the meat industry and the ability to undertake project activities in the laboratory and in the pilot plant.

Your duties will include:

  • Incorporating novel approaches to scientific investigations by adapting and/or developing original concepts and ideas for new, existing and further research.
  • Undertaking and focussing research projects on structure-function of meat linked to novel processing technologies and value addition.
  • Conducting and effectively leading meat science projects across disciplines and deliver project outputs, at the appropriate standard, on time and within budget, including the negotiation of resource requirements
  • Communicating effectively and respectfully in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
  • Producing high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals and for presentation at national and international conferences.

Location: Coopers Plains, Queensland
Salary: $95k to $103k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of 3 years

To be successful you will have:

  • A doctorate or equivalent research experience in a relevant discipline area, such as meat structure-function and/or meat biochemistry, meat processing.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to publish research results, prepare reports and present the results of scientific investigations at national and international conferences and stakeholder meetings.
  • Experience in leading a strategic or industry focused multidisciplinary project and project teams.
  • Knowledge and research conducted in meat science and/or food process engineering.
  • Experience in meat processing at laboratory and pilot plant scale.
