CREST Education Specialist

The Position:

CSIRO Education and Outreach (CEdO) is seeking an experienced Education Specialist to work within the Awards team to deliver the CREST program and specifically to coordinate the Thales component of the CREST program by working collaboratively with staff across CEdO. CREST is a non-competitive awards program that engages and rewards students for open-ended science investigations and technology projects. It also has a focus on teacher professional learning (including pre-service training) in open inquiry.  The Education Specialist will use varied adult facilitation techniques to increase participants' confidence and understanding of STEM based open ended inquiry and adapt their communication according to diverse audiences.

Your duties will include:

  • Coordinating the Thales program and working in the CREST program in close collaboration with the Awards Manager.
  • Working with Australian universities to implement a Platinum CREST award for selected tertiary ‘pre-service’ teachers to introduce them to inquiry-based learning in the classroom.
  • Development and facilitation of adult training workshops in STEM based open inquiry utilising CREST program resources and materials for Industry STEM Professionals and teachers, face to face and online. Aligning professional learning content and materials to the Australian Curriculum and Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Leading the development and implementation of additional learning materials and resources for the CREST program, including updates to web content and training materials.
  • In collaboration with the STEM Professionals in School team, supporting Industry STEM professionals working with teachers in partnered schools in the implementation of CREST materials.

Location: Negotiable
Salary: $80k to $91k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in STEM, education, science communication, project management.  A Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment is highly desirable.
  • Highly effective project management skills, including demonstrated experience in the coordination of national programs with high profile clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience with development and facilitation of training workshops in STEM based open inquiry for Industry STEM Professionals and teachers, demonstrating an understanding of the alignment to the Australian Curriculum and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, communication skills and collaborative working style including experience with representation, and proven ability to establish and maintain strong productive and appropriate relationships and networks with teachers, STEM professionals, students, stakeholders, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Demonstrated capacity for initiative and self-motivation, as well as flexibility, and a proven ability to work independently.
