- Are you passionate about geochemical exploration?
- Take your career to another level
- Join CSIRO Mineral Resources and help to grow Australia's resource base
The Discovery Program in CSIRO’s Mineral Resources Business Unit is inviting applications for a leader in Exploration geoscience research. The Senior Scientist: exploration geochemistry will join a world-class research team involved in field and laboratory based projects relating to mineral exploration research across a range of commodities and geological environments. The application of the latest geochemical breakthroughs to mineral exploration challenges, including in regolith dominated terrains and sedimentary basins, will be an exciting part of the new role.
The team is looking to appoint an innovative thinker with industry experience to undertake research in the science of exploration targeting and vectoring in covered terrains via mapping of distal system footprints and low level detection of mineral system signatures. The role will require application of new approaches to geochemical data collection, interpretation and tool development with the chemical interaction between basement and cover as a core research focus area. The successful candidate must have experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, and the capability to integrate geochemistry at a large range of scales with other data sets (e.g. geophysics).
To be successful in this role, you must have the motivation to drive the application of science outcomes through to industry engagement. Well-developed oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills and an enthusiastic team-focused approach to research are essential.
The position will be based at the Australian Resources Research Centre, Perth, Western Australia, which offers outstanding facilities in a new and growing research environment. You will also have access to other world-class facilities based at the universities in Perth where CSIRO has collaborative arrangements in place, and at other CSIRO sites across Australia. The position will require travel within Australia and occasionally overseas, as well as field visits to mine sites and exploration camps. CSIRO will support flexible working arrangements where required.
Location: Kensington, WA
Salary: $127k to $141k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
