CSIRO's Data61 is hiring

In 2021 Data61 embarked upon an ambitious hiring campaign. We have a range of exciting opportunities available for Research Scientists and Engineers, People Leaders, and individuals who are passionate about science and engineering in the digital and data sciences. We also have a range of opportunities available to graduates; to be considered for our graduate program you will have completed at least an undergraduate degree with first-class Honours (H1 or HD) not less than three years ago.

Data61 is at the forefront of digital science and innovation. Data61 is guiding first class novel research as well as working across disciplines and sectors to apply technologies and deliver impact. 

This is an opportunity to reinvigorate new Machine Learning methods for scientific discoveries and have your research directly impact real-world problems. Our development of innovative technologies will be utilised in digital agriculture, industry 4.0/5.0, defence, environment and hazards, and digital services. Some of the key areas where you will play a pivotal role at enhancing our Machine Learning capabilities are within, but not limited to, representation learning, adaptive sampling, and reinforcement learning. 

Overview of who we are looking for

Data61 is strengthening its machine learning (ML) capabilities and we are offering indefinite opportunities for Research Scientists and Research Engineers within the field of Machine Learning to contribute to various strategic areas. Locations available across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra or remote where requirements can be met. If the below sounds like you then please apply now to express your interest! 

  • Expertise in machine learning and the ability to develop and apply new mathematically founded machine learning algorithms. 
  • A PhD in a relevant field such as engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computer science or statistics.  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to publish research results, prepare reports and present the results of scientific investigations at national and international conferences and stakeholder meetings.  

For our scientist community: We are looking for people with a solid record of quality publications as primary author in high impact, peer-reviewed conferences and journals, such as NeurIPS, ICML, AISTATS, ICLR and JMLR in foundational machine learning, as well as top international domain science and cross disciplinary journals where new machine learning have been developed in response to real applications. 

For our engineering community: We are looking for people with experience developing machine learning software in high-level programming languages such as Python or C++.
