As a key project delivery team member in the Language and Social Computing (LASC) team, you will focus on client-based research and development.?You will be part of a research team that focuses on language technologies, such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Retrieval (IR).  Your work will be to research and develop software and platforms that enables new text-based data science. Your work will enable government and industry innovations and help facilitate scientific discovery across various disciplines, such as social science, mental health, life sciences, agriculture, and the environmental sciences.?

We are seeking Research Engineers within the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Retrieval (IR) and Machine Learning (ML) to join CSIRO’s Data61. You will join a team that specialises in data science projects involving human language data, including (but not limited to) scientific literature, social media data, technical literature, and corporate documents. A bit more about you!

We’re interested in hearing from people who can demonstrate the following:? 

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in software engineering, computer science or a relevant field. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software engineering best practice. 
  • Expertise in Java, Python and Web application technologies.??? 
  • Experience with search engine and database technologies, and cloud computing/server-side management. 
  • Sound experience with Natural Language Processing and/or Artificial Intelligence projects. 
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills for both internal and external audiences.
