The Opportunity

The Community Services and Social Infrastructure Planning Department is looking for an experienced Community and Social Planning Research Officer to contribute to social and community infrastructure policy and planning at Maribyrnong City Council.

Reporting to the Senior Social Policy and Research Officer, this position will be responsible for developing community profiles and providing data analysis and mapping expertise to Council in the areas of community infrastructure planning, demographic research and population forecasting.

This role will also support community infrastructure planning and projects and the assessment of the social impacts of significant residential development within the municipality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide social planning research, data analysis and data mapping expertise to Council for the benefit of the community of Maribyrnong;
  • Operate within an integrated planning framework that provides a guide for considering the social implications of Council's decisions, operations, services and the urban development of the municipality;
  • Work with Council and the community to identify and analyse community needs and issues;
  • Coordinate the generation, analysis and mapping of demographic, economic and population forecasting data for reports, profiles and briefings;
  • Coordinate the generation and management of community infrastructure needs data including the management of databases, and analysis and mapping of data for community infrastructure planning.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • Tertiary or post-grad qualifications in a social science or related research and data analysis discipline;
  • Experience working in social planning, and community infrastructure needs research and policy development;
  • Experience in demographic and community infrastructure needs data analysis including mapping of data for planning projects, research papers, profiles, briefings, and submissions.
  • Excellent computer skills in the application of MS Office packages including Word and Excel, and GIS mapping programs including QGIS. Experience with RStudio will be well regarded.
