DEPARTMENT:
Alfred Health recognises the clinical and strategic importance of research and clinical trials through its strategic goal of leading excellent, innovative and collaborative health research. Clinical research is central to patient care at The Alfred, where leading practitioners who are also leading researchers care for the state’s most complex patients through our 14 state-wide services.

Clinical trials are the vehicles through which advances in medical science are translated to the benefit of patients and their communities, providing essential conduits from scientific discovery to improved health outcomes for all.

Federal Government funding has been provided to Alfred Health over the next 6 years, to establish The TrialHub, which will:

  • support improved access to clinical trials for patients in remote and rural areas and for indigenous and disadvantaged Australians;
  • boost participation in clinical trials,
  • increase the speed of trial accrual and completion,
  • Promote the benefits of clinical trials, improving health literacy.
  • TrialHub will establish a national registry of clinical trials and participants linked to outcomes to identify areas of need and ensure the quality of care; and promote benefits of clinical trials to the community, enhancing health literacy; provide training of the workforce required for scaled clinical trial delivery.

To facilitate the achievement of the TrialHub objectives a TrialHub Directorate will be established at Alfred Health, facilitating the roll out of the initiative across Victoria.

POSITION:
The Director, Clinical Trials will play a critical role in the establishment of the TrialHub Directorate and the development and implementation of the TrialHub initiatives as well as supporting the oversight and development of clinical trials at The Alfred and at partner sites. This role will be responsible for developing and promoting relationships with industry, investigators, partner sites, funding bodies and research organisations to support access to clinical trials for rural, remote, indigenous and disadvantaged Australians, boosting participation in clinical trials and maximising the rate of trial accrual.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Essential

  • Undergraduate degree in Health or business discipline
  • Research and Clinical Trials and/or Industry experience
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • History of successful Project Management and Delivery, and change management
  • Record of achievement in delivering services in accordance with performance objectives within complex organisations
  • Experience managing a team
