 We're seeking a Manager of Science and Innovation.

The Manager Science and Innovation is primarily responsible for leading the team to ensure the development and implementation of scientific programs to support robust decision making across water, wastewater, recycled water and stormwater service and infrastructure operations and planning. The role will also lead the development of the corporate Research & Development and Innovation programs. The Manager of Science and Innovation will drive a team responsible for the provision of scientific expertise with a strong focus on the protection of public health and understanding impacts of Hunter Water operations on ecological environments.

This is a full time, fixed term role (5 years) that will attract a competitive salary package commensurate with skills and experience.

To be successful in this role you will have 

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Science, Environmental Science, Biotechnology or equivalent suitable professional qualifications and experience
  • Understanding of water resource management issues and management issues related to water treatment, water quality and ecological health monitoring and assessment
  • Understanding of wastewater management issues and aquatic system management issues related to wastewater treatment, discharge and recycling, water quality and ecological health monitoring and assessment
  • Extensive experience in planning and managing studies and projects of an environmental or scientific nature
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to influence and coach others
  • Well-developed analytical and innovation skills with the ability to initiate & deliver change and business improvements.

Desirable Criteria

  • Higher Degree Research in Science, Environmental Science or Biotechnology or other relevant field
  • Experience in scientific (environmental or biological) investigation, planning and management of water, catchment and wastewater systems and processes
  • Experience in ecological assessment study design, performance and analysis, environmental microbiology and habitat assessment
  • Experience in water quality analysis and/or risk assessment
  • Experience in developing and managing Research and Development Strategies and Programs
  • Good understanding of NSW environmental legislation and planning approval requirements.
