• Postdoctoral Research Fellow required to contribute to the update, research and dissemination activities for the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use

About the opportunity 

As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will contribute to the update, research and dissemination activities of the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use.

This is an exciting, full-time opportunity to work on an evidence-based resource led by Dr Christina Marel that aims to build capacity in the alcohol and other drug workforce in relation to co-occurring mental health conditions. This role will be suited to someone who is interested in translating research into practice.

You will work with a project team to update Australian Government Department of Health-funded national guidelines on the management of co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. This will involve undertaking multiple comprehensive reviews of the literature and producing high quality drafts of material by synthesising evidence from literature reviews, feedback from consultations with key stakeholders and the projects’ investigators, within the project’s deadlines. You will also have the opportunity to actively contribute to research proposals and applications to external funding bodies, and contribute to the production of high quality research outputs.

• A PhD in psychology, public health, behavioural sciences or a related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrated experience liaising with key stakeholders or experts.
• Sound knowledge of substance use and mental health issues and/or previous research experience in relation to mental health and/or substance use prevention or treatment.
• Demonstrated capacity to translate evidence-based research into practice, or proven capacity to contribute to translation activities, beyond peer-reviewed publications.
• Excellent negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters.
• Demonstrated capacity to undertake high quality reviews of the scientific and grey literature.
• Excellent high-level organisational and time-management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines, with impeccable attention to detail.
• Demonstrated understanding of qualitative and/or quantitative research methodology, and experience and skill in data collection, management and statistical analysis.
• Demonstrated capacity to contribute to research dissemination as evidenced by peer reviewed (or equivalent) publications and conference presentations.
• Proven ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team.
