• Multiple 12-month, fixed-term opportunities; base salary from $76K for Level A position, $108K for Level B position p.a., plus leave loading and a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation. A clinical loading will also be paid where appropriate.

About the opportunity 

The Clinical Trials Centre is looking to recruit multiple Oncology Research Associates/Fellows (Academic A/B) to work in a number of programs. These opportunities are designed for individuals keen to develop their skills, expertise, and careers in cancer clinical trials research, molecular screening, and novel therapeutics.

The Oncology Research Associates/Fellows will work with the relevant partner organisations and contribute to their entire program, as required. This may include working with study chairs, co-investigators, statisticians, data managers and trial coordinators to develop trial concepts, protocols, grant applications, reports, meeting presentations, and journal articles. You will also provide day to day clinical support adjudicating and advising on eligibility, treatment, and adverse events.  The Oncology Research Associate/Fellow will participate in research advisory committees, operational executive committees, and other subcommittees of partner organisations.

These positions can either be full-time or part-time, for a fixed term of 12 months and are subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees, and with the possibility of further offers of employment dependent on funding and business need.

• registration or eligible for registration with the NSW medical board
• recently completed all or most of their training in a clinical oncologic specialty (surgical, medical or radiation)
• past research, publications, and presentations are desirable but not essential
• level A applicants will have some training or shown interest in developing skills in clinical research
• level B applicants will have demonstrated experience and interest in clinical research, and will have completed a higher degree (or equivalent, for example Fellowship of a relevant College)

Candidates must be qualified medical doctors with experience and expertise in oncology.

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and is a research centre within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. The CTC is a leader in the design, conduct, and reporting of large-scale clinical trials in cancer and other diseases. It also researches trial methods and conducts systematic reviews.

The CTC is the coordinating centre for:

1. Five of Australia’s leading cancer cooperative trials groups, the:
               Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG),
               Australian New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG),
               Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP),
               Australian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG), and
               Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO)
2. The Genomic Cancer Clinical Trials Initiative (GCCTI) funded by Cancer Australia to support the development of oncology trials including multiple cancer types and cooperative groups.
3. The Omico flagship precision oncology Molecular Screening and Therapeutics program (MoST) for advanced cancers, especially rare or less common cancers.
