- Full-time, Fixed term 12 months, Base Salary: Base Salary: $105,198 p.a. - $118,639 p.a. Level 8, plus a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation.
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Senior Technical Officer – Robotic Systems Engineer, will be responsible for providing mechanical, electrical and systems engineering support for contract research and development (R&D) projects for ACFR. The position will:
- Provide expert technical advice, sound technical research support and assistance to researchers and students on robotic systems
- Design, develop and demonstrate robotic systems and sub-systems
- Determine robotic systems requirements for mobile and fixed applications
- Carry out high-level systems scoping, analysis and technical requirements definition
- Support field trials
- Write technical reports
- Ensure the laboratory is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

- A tertiary degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or related field
- Systems Engineering experience
- Mechanical/electrical/mechatronic engineering experience
- Sound working knowledge of safety procedures relevant to the work environment
- Experience in writing technical documents and user manuals relating to software and processes.
- A willingness to travel interstate for fieldwork if required.
The Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) is based in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (AMME) at The University of Sydney, and is dedicated to the research, development, application and dissemination of field robotics principles. The ACFR is the largest robotics and automation research group in Australia and one of the largest of its kind in the world.
