Research Officer

  • Located at Lifehouse, Camperdown Campus
  • Fixed Term, full - time for 1 year with possibility of extension until 2023, base salary $84K p.a plus superannuation

 

About the opportunity 

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Officer to coordinate the Australasian participation in a multi-national clinical trial investigating the impact of physical activity on cancer. This role is based in the Concord Clinical School as a component of the Centre for Medical Psychology & Evidence-based Decision-making (CeMPED), at the Camperdown Campus.

This challenging and rewarding role will involve project coordination and administrative support to the project leader, relationship management with participating sites, direct patient contact, recruitment, follow-up, and assistance with: the development of study materials, submission of ethics applications and maintenance of project files, records and databases. Due to the nature of this work, attention to detail and high-level organisational skills are essential.

This role requires a confident communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills, who will liaise with researchers, health professionals, collaborating stakeholders as well as cancer patients. The successful candidate will need to be able to interact with a diverse range of people and work well both autonomously and as part of a team.

About you

  • a degree in Psychology, Nursing, Health Sciences, or equivalent would be highly regarded
  • experience in conducting clinical research projects
  • experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols and ethics submissions
  • knowledge of, or experience in, psycho-oncology or neuropsychological research or facilitating support groups or rehabilitation groups will be highly advantageous.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills to be able to liaise confidently with researchers, health professionals, collaborating professionals as well as cancer patients, confident problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement. Alongside this strong organisational and prioritisation skills are a must. You will also have working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of Work Health and Safety policy and relevant legislation.

Currently employing over 30 staff, CeMPED’s mission is to support excellent research across the interface of Psychology, Medicine and Public Health to answer questions about: the behavioural factors which promote good health and prevent disease; ways to enhance the psychosocial adjustment of patients and carers; ways to increase use of evidence in health care decision making; and ways to support patients to be more involved in their own health care. CeMPED’s research strengths lie in three themes: doctor-patient communication; evidence-based, shared decision making; and Psycho-Oncology. With particular expertise in cancer care, CeMPED’s members have over 30 years of experience in this field.
