About the opportunity 

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake high-quality research focused on understanding the genetics of dementia, including frontotemporal dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. The research will be focused on developing cellular models of dementia-related phenotypes to assess the effect of candidate disease genes and variants, using mammalian cell culture techniques, molecular biological analysis and immunofluorescent microscopy.

The Dementia and Movement Disorders Laboratory is part of the internationally renowned network of clinics and laboratories known as ForeFront within the Brain and Mind Centre, and puts a strong priority on empirically rigorous research that has real-world applications. The team has many collaborative links with leading international researchers. This position will assist the Research Associate to launch their academic career and provide experience that will develop them as a potential research leader.

• BSc (Honours) or equivalent and PhD in molecular genetics or closely related discipline
• experience with cellular models, standard DNA technology, fluorescent light microscopy and immunocytochemical techniques
• familiarity with and a passion to work on neurodegenerative diseases
• ability to conduct independent, methodologically rigorous research that contributes to theoretical concepts and clinical translation
• experience of live-cell imaging and/or induced pluripotent stem cell culture would be highly regarded.
