About the Opportunity

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre at the University of Sydney conducts large multicentre investigator-initiated clinical trials, takes part in trials of national and international collaborative trial groups and contributes expertise to trials run by others.

The Associate Oncology Program Managers are responsible for the overall management, coordination and administration of projects or allocated clinical trials relevant to specific research areas.

The team of Associate Oncology Program Manager’s (AOPM) work on the portfolio of studies in their respective research/disease area working with their teams of specialised staff working as Study Coordinators, Data Managers, Study Monitors and Clinical Trial Assistants in the tumour streams of Gastro-intestinal, Gynaecological, Brain, Lung and Urogenital research, reporting through to the Oncology Program Manager. The AOPM’s are involved in development or operational activities depending on education and training, experience and opportunities. 

The activities range from:

  • Concept and protocol development;
  • Grant applications and reporting
  • Negotiating budgets and resource requirements for large scale international multi-site studies
  • Working with international regional coordinating centres and vendors for CRO and CMO services
  • Funding applications and reporting,
  • Scientific/Research/Operations Committee support including Trial Management Committees,
  • Milestone and financial reporting
  • Local and International HREC and Governance (and equivalent) submissions
  • High level project management
  • Oversight of trial operations including data management and onsite and remote monitoring;
  • Training and development of more junior team members.

The role will involve working with other senior staff at the CTC e.g. clinical investigators and biostatisticians for protocol development and with interim and final analyses and poster and manuscript publications.

The role may also involve the line management of more junior staff.

About you

  • a degree in Health Science or Allied Health field or similar education/training and relevant experience
  • highly developed project planning, coordination, organisation and time management skills
  • proven ability to identify problems, make recommendations and implement appropriate solutions
  • well-developed written and verbal communication, consultation and interpersonal skills
  • the ability to work in a complex and challenging environment
  • detailed knowledge of clinical research practices.

The successful candidates will have a background in health, experience in project management and detailed knowledge of clinical research practices including ethics and regulatory requirements of trials.  Exposure to quality assurance and control is also a bonus.

About us

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a fully externally funded research centre operating for 30 years. It runs large multicentre investigator-initiated clinical trials and provides expertise and infrastructure for trials run by external groups.  It undertakes research aiming at improving both the conduct of trials and the resulting clinical evidence. The CTC participates in translational research, conducts methodological research in relation to clinical trials, reviews and synthesises evidence from completed trials, supervises postgraduate students in all of these areas, offers postgraduate degrees in clinical trials research, runs short courses to train people for Australian medical research.
