About the opportunity 

The data coordinator will be part of the Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) research team based at Sydney Vital, located at the Royal North Shore Hospital. The main purpose of the position is the maintenance of the NET Registry to a high standard of accuracy and completeness.

• Life Sciences/Information Technology graduate (or equivalent) or, relevant experience working in a hospital/pharmaceutical/research environment
• Demonstrated experience with electronic patient information management systems, preferably within a hospital environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well within a team of diverse staff and to work autonomously, using initiative and judgement
• Familiarity with a wide range of medical terminology
• Extensive data entry skills and ability to manage a high workload
• Proven experience in the use of Microsoft Office based applications, including Excel spreadsheets and Word processing
• Highly developed skills in prioritisation, organisation and effective time management with the ability to self-manage many concurrent activities of a diverse nature
• Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality legislative requirements and the ability to work confidentially whilst exercising discretion and adhering to relevant organisational policies.

About us

Sydney Vital (the Northern Translational Cancer Research Centre) is situated on the campus of Royal North Shore Hospital. The Centre has been jointly funded by Cancer Institute NSW (CINSW) and the University of Sydney. Current Sydney Vital partner institutions include: University of Sydney, Macquarie University, Kolling Institute, University of Technology Sydney, Royal North Shore Hospital, Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) and Mater Hospital.

The goal of Sydney Vital is to develop a rich multi-disciplinary environment for translational cancer research from bench-top to bedside.

Our objectives are to:

• Build a supportive research governance structure to facilitate research collaborations;
• Standardise processes for identifying the right questions that align with the NSW Health priorities;
• Develop, maintain and add to essential research infrastructure;
• Facilitate comprehensive research training and educational programs and community engagement;
• Integrate cancer researchers and clinicians from multiple sites and disciplines into translational research programs ultimately directed towards cancer control;
• Facilitate the collection of data from clinicians and research groups;
• Expand the tumour banking capacity of sites associated with the centre;
• Develop a self-sustaining funding model for the future via leveraged funding strategies and philanthropy.

Sydney Vital brings together a highly motivated group of experienced cancer researchers, both pre-clinical and clinical, along with surgeons, physicians, allied health and oncologists to undertake translational cancer research which will ultimately lead to improved survival and quality of life for cancer patients. It aims to develop a pipeline of preclinical and clinical research activities to achieve this. Sydney Vital is in need of a Data Coordinator to assist with our NET programme.
