Senior Research Officer 

  • Great opportunity to provide high level clinical trial knowledge and expertise to the Chief Investigator, Senior Research Academics and the research team at Healthy ageing and dementia
  • Located at Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery, Mallet Street Campus
  • Full-time fixed term opportunity for 2.5 years and base salary $92K p.a plus superannuation

About the opportunity 

Reporting to Professor Yun-Hee Jeon, the Senior Research Officer will provide high level project management knowledge and expertise to the Chief Investigator, Senior Research Academics and the research team to support the clinical trial requirements for the work area. Project management activities include working on a large-scale intervention trial procedure, setting up and organising research sites (with some supervision), archiving documents and correspondence. The Senior Research Officer will be responsible for the leadership, development and implementation of a research governance framework in accordance with University policy, ethical principles, guidelines for the responsible conduct of clinical research and current legislative and regulatory requirements.

The Senior Research Officer will also provide leadership, advice and support to Chief Investigators and clinical research staff in all aspects of the clinical research process, including protocol development, ethics and regulatory authority applications, financial management and resourcing, data management and study initiation, supervising trial supplies and organising/ attending investigator meetings.

  • completed tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline with relevant experience in the related therapeutic field. Postgraduate qualification in nursing, health sciences, public health, life sciences or medical sciences
  • extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, research design, ethics submissions, grant applications, writing reports and performing site visits
  • experience managing, planning, monitoring and executing research programs within an academic environment, to the highest ethical and scientific standards
  • a demonstrated understanding of contractual arrangements for clinical trial
  • some demonstrated experience in project management and organisational skills, with the ability to work according to strict deadlines, successfully prioritise and manage competing issues to meet deadlines; use initiative; exercise sound judgement; and use a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters
  • experience with electronic data management and analysis programs (such as SPSS, SAS, NVivo) and research databases (such as REDcap is desirable) as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • have a genuine passion for aged care and dementia and previous experience in research relating to dementia/or cognitive impairment in older people will be highly regarded

The successful candidate will have previous experience in managing and coordinating the appointment of project support staff, preparing position descriptions that accurately scope role requirements, and engaging with HR to complete hiring and appointment processes in line with University policy and practice.

The program of research focuses on improving the quality of life of persons with dementia through person-centred care, building capacity of the aged care workforce, bettering measures of quality and outcomes in dementia and aged care, understanding the experiences of older people with chronic illness, and developing and establishing evidence for new models of care and translating evidence into practice in the care of older people.
