Research Assistant

  • A fantastic opportunity for a research assistant interested in commencing a PhD exists within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The project involves working with world leading, multi-disciplinary experts from four Australian states who are investigating an innovative pathway of care for people with musculoskeletal disorders. 
  • Located at Lidcombe, Cumberland Campus
  • Fixed Term (part-time, two days per week) for three years, commencing January 2019 and base salary $67K p.a pro rata plus superannuation.


About the opportunity

The project aims to determine the effect of ‘Implementation of a novel clinical pathway of care for common musculoskeletal disorders in primary care’ by randomized controlled trial. People with musculoskeletal pain (low back pain, neck pain/ whiplash and knee osteoarthritis) will be stratified for risk of recovery then randomized into usual care or the clinical pathway. Those at low risk will be referred to guideline based resources and those at high risk will be referred to an expert musculoskeletal physiotherapist who will further determine care. About the role

The role will involve preparing relevant materials in collaboration with team members, performing fundamental aspects of research work including ethics applications, and facilitating the efficient operation of the research project by providing essential technical and operational support including preparatory data entry and analysis. The incumbent will be expected to co-ordinate activities associated with the trial and facilitate the efficient operation of the project.   • Tertiary qualifications in appropriate health-related discipline with relevant experience in related field. May have completed Honours degree and be working towards, or interested in, completing further studies such as PhD or have extensive specialist experience in the field of research;
  • Experience in a research-active environment or interest in working in academia;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods.
