About the opportunity 

Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death and disability. The main role of the position will be to assist establishment and performance of investigator clinical trials in cardiovascular medicine across Sydney Health Partners. The Position will be based at Northern Clinical School- but be an essential position supporting the growing Sydney Health Partners cardiovascular clinical trials program.

Our Partnership - the first of its kind in New South Wales  - is made up of the Sydney, Northern Sydney and Western Sydney Local Health Districts; the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (Westmead); the University of Sydney; and nine affiliated independent medical research institutes.

We are seeking a Research Officer to work with leading experts in cardiovascular disease management and prevention, and participate in a dynamic research network, with outstanding career development opportunities. The position will support projects aiming to improve patient outcome in Cardiovascular and Peripheral Arterial Diseases.  

Reporting to the Chief Investigator, Professor Gemma Figtree, you will:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the cardiovascular clinical trials program
  • Assist in the development of appropriate quality activities for clinical trials
  • Ensure that ethics guidelines, standards and WHS requirements are met for the project
  • Conduct data collection from the participants and entry of patient and medical record data 
  • Contribute to recruitment and tracking of participants for investigator initiated clinical studies
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with clinical trial stakeholders
  • Aid in the coordination, management and conduct of clinical trials

About you

  • A Bachelor of Nursing and Post Graduate Cardiac Specialty Certificate and/or relevant work experience in a related field
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to independently prioritise workload and manage competing demands
  • Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Demonstrated ability to screen, recruit, enrol, randomise and follow patients in clinical trials
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and enter clinical data
  • Experience in managing documents, endnote files, and databases

Prior experience in working with cardiac patients and knowledge of cardiac disorders is highly desirable.
