About the opportunity 

The Support Officer, Strategic Ventures provides high level advice and operational support for initiatives within the Strategic Ventures Office, coordinating the implementation and delivery of a broad range of activities and tasks in order to meet established milestones and deliverables.

Working directly with the Director, Strategic Ventures this position is responsible for providing general project management and operational support, including: developing and implementing new ventures; managing the gathering and preparation of data, information, analysis and reporting; and coordinating the logistics for the projects, including scheduling meetings, liaising with attendees, planning workshops and meetings in various locations, and sourcing appropriate venues. The incumbent will manage multiple work-stream stakeholders and communications, ensuring effective collaboration and team work with other teams and stakeholders across the University.

  • appropriate tertiary qualifications, in a relevant discipline and/or work experience involving project management
  • planning, analysis and communication skills together with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • the ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with industry providers and key users
  • experience managing a diverse group of key internal/external stakeholders on large or complex projects
  • previously worked in the higher education/tertiary sector or at a complex, multi-faceted organisation
  • excellent administrative skills, coupled with a general understanding of the project life cycle, project documentation, project standards and methodologies.

About us

The Strategic Ventures Office has been created to provide high level leadership for strategic initiatives. The unit leads the management of complex and innovative new ventures, from concept through due diligence and analysis, designing road maps to implementation and governance structures to monitor success and embedding the initiative into business as usual processes. Strategic ventures, as defined here would include activity of University-wide impact that has a strategic and commercial orientation. Recent examples include the Western Sydney Strategy, the establishment of the University’s first substantial offshore entity in China, the acquisition of a specialist clinical service, or the disestablishment or transfer of business of University activity. The unit also leads assessments of attractiveness and fit with University strategy and objectives for major programs of work across the University.
