About the opportunity 

The Postgraduate Program in Brain and Mind Sciences is part of the Brain and Mind Centre, a leading research entity within the University of Sydney. The Brain and Mind Centre brings together patients, carers, support groups with a team of scientists and clinicians working in neurosciences and brain research, all housed together in an environment that promotes synergy of effort and sharing of ideas.

The Curriculum Development Officer reports to the Student and Academic Manager and is responsible for supporting the unit coordination and its delivery of its teaching through timetabling, contracting teachers, liaising with unit coordinators, organising teaching facilities including online options, collecting and presenting curriculum resources for the Postgraduate Program in Brain & Mind Sciences and Psychiatry. Primarily this involves supporting Academics in the preparation for their lectures and tutorials and online teaching, assessments and resources. This includes quality control and standardisation of all material and maintenance of the program’s eLearning sites. The role will seek and engage academics, teachers and markers and assist in their contracts and payment. The role also requires administration of assessment tasks and facilitation of curriculum development. Depending on their skills in either online learning, research methods, data collection, analysis or administrative capacity, the incumbent will be involved in these areas and will also support the team’s research output.

About you

  • completed Bachelor Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Science, Psychology, mental health discipline, neuroscience, education)
  • a highly developed written and verbal communication skills with ability to interpret requirements, manage the preparation of high quality student and teaching resources and interact professionally with academic staff
  • a highly developed organisational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and manage time effectively
  • expertise in IT to support online teaching and learning, or willingness and capacity to learn this
  • a proactive approach and commitment to do whatever is necessary to ensure tasks and functions are fulfilled
  • proficiency in e-learning environments such as Blackboard, Canvas
  • research understanding and capacity to support projects through either research skills or administrative support
  • previous experience in curriculum design and writing in a similar role
  • knowledge and understanding of neuroscience or health systems, in particular - mental health would be highly regarded.
