About the opportunity 

The role of Technical Assistant works closely with the School’s Technical Staff to provides essential hand-on technical support to staff and students using the School of Electrical and Information Engineering Teaching (EIE) laboratories. The Technical Assistant undertakes routine analysis in accordance with established procedures/standards, prepares the teaching laboratory for student practicals, prepares and carries out experiments related to the EIE coursework programs.  

In this position, you will:

• provide laboratory research support and assistance to academic staff, students and other technical staff in the laboratory
• maintain the laboratory workplace ensuring that the research, learning and teaching requirements of the work area are suitably met
• ensures laboratory is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements
• prepare reporting and documentation, including ethics reporting.

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and relevant work experience, with a willingness to undertake on the job training to better develop their skills in laboratory techniques/methods
• demonstrated knowledge in at least two of the following areas: computer and computing; software development; electronics, telecommunications, electrical systems
• demonstrated experience with PCB design and mechanical workshop skills
• sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment
