About the opportunity 

The Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is a world leader in melanoma research, clinical care and education. An independent, non - profit organisation, the Institute is formally affiliated with the University of Sydney and collaborates with clinicians at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Royal North Shore Hospital, Westmead Hospital and St Vincent’s and Mater Health to improve the outcome of patients with melanoma. Our team of clinicians will see approximately 1500 new melanoma patients each year and lead clinical trials of novel agents, including investigator initiated clinical and translational studies.

The Senior Research Officer contributes to melanoma research at Melanoma Institute Australia, aligning with the Institute’s research strategy. Reporting to the Chair of Melanoma and Surgical Oncology, this role is responsible for moving potential projects from initial idea through to a submitted paper. The Senior Research Officer will be based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and work with melanoma researchers based at centres located across Sydney and further afield to develop and promote high impact melanoma research.

  • completed PhD or Master degree desirable, preferably in the field of medical or scientific research
  • a background and demonstrated experience in scientific writing (either for scientific journals or the lay press)
  • excellent writing skills/knowledge of the English language
  • the ability to search literature and critically appraise
  • demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • the ability to grasp concepts and ideas
  • demonstrated ability to manage a project from an early stage through to completion
  • excellent communication skills.
