About the opportunity 

The School of Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) has a strong and proud tradition in contributing to world-class research and teaching in the field of electrical engineering throughout its long history. It counts some of the most eminent Australian industry leaders and engineering professionals amongst its alumni.

The Centre of Excellence in Telecommunication engages in world-class research to provide solutions for future telecommunication networks, and research support to the telecommunications industry. Its work includes both fundamental and applied research that has broad application in cellular, Wi-Fi and IoT networks.

The Senior Technical Officer in Telecommunication Engineering will manage the technical operations and provide sound, expert technical support and advice to academics, researchers and students in research activities conducted at the Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications (CoET), a key research centre at the School of Electrical and Information Engineering.

In this position, you will:

• provide expert advice, sound technical research support and assistance to academics, researchers, students and visitors working in the CoET laboratories
• design and develop new projects, products, and protocols for teaching and research requirements
• manage the CoET laboratory workplace ensuring that the research, learning and teaching requirements of the work area are met effectively
• ensure the laboratory is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

• Minimum BE in electrical engineering and willingness to undertake further studies to better develop their skills in laboratory techniques/methods
• Good computational skills for software development, data acquisition and statistical analysis
• skills in embedded computing
• skills and expertise in microcontroller, DSP and development
• Skills and experiences in graphic user interface, driver, software, firmware, and server development
• Skills to install and administer MS-Windows, MS-server and Linux operating systems, install server hardware, and troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues
• software development in MATLAB and C++ or equivalent
