About the opportunity

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work within Musculoskeletal Health Sydney, a group of around 45 research staff and students based in the Sydney School of Public Health. The group’s research is focused on improving musculoskeletal health through healthy lifestyles and equitable access to patient-centred, evidence-based, and cost-effective health services. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the planning, conduct and dissemination of projects working with one of the Associate Professors or Professors in Sydney Musculoskeletal Health.

The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the School of Public Health as a postdoctoral research associate (e.g. by providing ad-hoc advice to junior PhD students, contributing to seminars, contributing to internal peer-review of grant applications).

  • doctoral qualification in science, or public health field
  • experience in the development and coordination of health research projects and/or clinical trials
  • ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
  • strong problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking
  • experience in writing research papers and grant applications. Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
  • excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly ie autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders.

Musculoskeletal Health Sydney (MHS) is a new academic research group within the School of Public Health and is based at the King George V building in the Sydney Local Health District, with whom we have close ties.  Our group comprises world leaders in low back pain, and physical activity and ageing research. PEDro, the internationally renowned Physiotherapy Evidence Database, is produced by researchers in our MHS group. The work of MHS has impacted clinical practice guidelines and changed the way musculoskeletal disease is managed in Australia and worldwide. We have active collaborations with a wide range of multidisciplinary clinicians, researchers, and policy makers in Australia and internationally.
