About the opportunity 

This position is funded by the University in recognition of Communication Disorders being a research strength of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the role has been created to facilitate research productivity of the Communication Disorders Team. Consequently, the role will be split between research support for existing researchers with the specific projects allocated based on the successful applicant’s strengths and leadership of your own research projects.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the Communication Disorders team who will:

• lead your own research projects in an area of Communication Disorders
• assist other researchers with various research tasks including data collection and analysis, literature review report writing and ethics applications
• prepare and contribute to grant applications and submissions
• prepare and contribute to publications, presentations and briefing papers
• supervise postgraduate and honours research students
• co-ordinate various administrative tasks associated with research projects.

To succeed in this role you will have:

• have a clear research plan and career goals leading to nationally competitive funding
• a PhD in communication disorders or equivalent
• an outstanding record of peer reviewed publications relative to opportunity
• A background in a relevant discipline, such as Speech Pathology, Audiology, Psychology, Education or Linguistics and previous research experience including skills in quantitative (essential) and qualitative (desirable) methods.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for national and/or international competitive funding before the end of their fixed term position. Applicants should have a plan to apply for funding for ARC DECRA or NHMRC Early Career Fellowships or similar and therefore need to be within the relevant time frames (generally less than 5 years post award of PhD but variable in relation to opportunity).

• A paediatric research or clinical background would be advantageous but we encourage applications from outstanding early career researchers with interests across the lifespan.
