About the opportunity 

The Dr Liang Voice Program (DLVP) is a newly established, world-class research and training program in the field of laryngeal and voice disorders at the University of Sydney. The Program integrates research, training and education and clinical treatment into a comprehensive model that aims to deliver best-practice treatment to patients. The program is run across two Faculties: Health Sciences and Medicine. Directed by Dr Cate Madill (Speech Pathologist) and Dr Daniel Novakovic (ENT Surgeon & Laryngologist), the charter of the program is to conduct world-leading:

  1.  i.  Research on disorders of the voice and their treatment
  2.  ii.  Post-graduate education and training in speech pathology relating to treatment of laryngeal disorders;
  3. iii. Post graduate fellowship education and training in surgery relating to treatment of laryngeal disorders;
  4. iv. Translation of best practice in laryngology and voice assessment and treatment to overseas Universities with whom MOUs have been established.

The Senior Research Officer will provide deep technical knowledge and project management support to the Co-directors Madill and Novakovic, and collaborate with academics and research professionals to support the research and/or clinical trial requirements for the DLVP. This role includes actively leading and contributing to research activities, designing research protocols, undertaking critical aspects of research work including formation of analysis and key findings. The Senior Research Officer will organise collection of, collate and record research data, draw insights and analyses, report information from the research undertaken and work with the Co-directors to source grant funding. When working in a clinic and/or laboratory, the role may also include oversight and responsibility for any lab work carried out by researchers, students and provides teaching support where needed.

The Senior Research Officer will be required to work across the Cumberland (Lidcombe) and Camperdown campuses and with LHDs, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and other stakeholder organisations and teams including external clinics contributing to research and data collection for the program (Sydney Voice and Swallowing and Cate Madill Voice and Speech).

  • Tertiary qualifications likely Honours in appropriate discipline with relevant experience in related field. May have or working towards completing further studies such as PhD or have extensive specialist experience in the field of voice and/or laryngeal research
  • Extensive experience in developing and working on research projects including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submission and grant applications
  • Financial management experience and literacy including managing budgets
  • Knowledge of the Higher Education Research Data Collection and ethics reporting requirement
  • Sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills.
