About the opportunity 

The Informatics Services Lead is a senior leadership role in the Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH), a newly established core research facility. Reporting to the Director, SIH, the Informatics Services Lead will lead the informatics and digital services for High Performance Computing, informatics, visualisation and digital research support. The Informatics Services Lead will serve all faculties and researchers by establishing and developing a capability for supporting researchers in their informatics needs, and building research relationships and opportunities for the University in this key strategic area. The Informatics Services Lead will have oversight of service delivery, project scheduling and strategy for informatics within the Sydney Informatics Hub activities.

• demonstrated understanding of modern informatics methods and familiarity with statistical or computational techniques
• extensive experience in an informatics domain, such as genomics, bioinformatics, characterisation informatics, earth science informatics or digital humanities
• a deep understanding of modern data science software and tools, from high performance computing to cloud computing to the many existing commercial products used for data analytics
• a deep knowledge of modern data-centric programing languages including python, R, and development languages including C++ or Java
• a demonstrated ability to lead and manage an engineering team to delivery bespoke software tools, data services and data products together with a passion for data science
• financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure.

This role will suit candidates with a demonstrated ability to lead an engineering team to deliver bespoke software tools, data services and data products together with having a passion for data science.
