The University of Sydney is Australia's first university and has an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. It employs over 7600 permanent staff, supporting over 60,000 students.

The DVC Research (DVCR) portfolio currently includes six groups that support the DVCR and researchers to achieve the University’s research goals. The DVCR also has responsibility for the delivery of the University’s multidisciplinary research and education initiatives. This includes the oversight of Brain and Mind Centre, the Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), and Sydney Microscopy and Microanalysis.

Brain and Mind Centre aims to make real-world differences to individual and societal challenges presented by the workings of the brain and mind through highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and education.  Work at the Brain and Mind Centre spans basic, pre-clinical, clinical and translational research, across strong partnerships with industry, government, the community and other health care providers and research bodies.

We are currently seeking a Research Engineer (e-Health) who will work in partnership with other research engineers to support Brain and Mind Centre platforms and research, and to strengthen its capacity to conduct multi-disciplinary and collaborative research. The successful candidate will, therefore, be required to identify research synergies and opportunities and support the development of research collaborations across the centre and with other internal and external partners, both locally and internationally.

The successful candidate will need:

  • a bachelor degree in computer science or a related field, or relevant experience
  • software design and development skills including documentation, testing and problem solving
  • leadership skills
  • excellent analytical, creative and critical thinking skills
  • previous experience working as part of a multidisciplinary research team, or similar team environment
  • experience in the development of e-health technology
  • excellent organisational and administrative skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

An understanding of processes and approaches for commercialisation of research and research skills and competency in a clinical environment is advantageous.

This is a great 12 month opportunity with possibility for extension, to work within a leading multi-disciplinary research centre and develop your project management, research and software design skills. This position would also ideally suit someone with a strong interest in pursuing a career in information technology solutions and program management, in the field of health and medical research.
