The Postgraduate Program in HIV, STIs and Sexual Health at Western Sydney Sexual Health (WSSH) at the Sydney Medical School – Westmead deals with teaching and research into sexual health, sexually transmitted infections and HIV. The program has a specific focus on psychosexual therapy/sexology. WSSH is situated in Parramatta, in purpose-designed facilities and associated with Western Sydney Local Health District (Sydney, Australia), WSSH contributes to the promotion of sexual health and reduction of spread of STIs/HIV through research, the enhancement of clinical services, teaching, training and health promotion. In this role, you will play a central role in the Postgraduate Program in HIV, STIs and Sexual Health focussed on the development and delivery of Sexual Health Counselling (Sex Therapy) pathway units of study and contribute to the Public Health Pathway units of study.  The incumbent will be required to coordinate the ongoing development and liaison with professional placement organisations, as well the academic coordination of professional placement capstone unit of study.

To be successful in securing this role you will have:

Essential:

• knowledge of current best practice in sexual health, especially as it applies to sexual function, gender and counselling methods
• awareness and maintenance of professional and ethical issues of practice in a variety of cultural, social, ethnic and workplace situations
• a sound understanding of adult learning techniques and the pedagogic approaches relevant to the implementation of constructivist learning in an interdisciplinary, inter-professional collaborative environment
• demonstrated skills in instructional design, research intensive resource development for on-line and face-to-face delivery and selection and development of a range of assessment tasks
• demonstrated ability to provide effective, timely and excellent teaching practice
• excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly in the context of students in both face-to-face and on-line modalities
• proven ability to work as a member of a team in a highly demanding environment and ability to develop and maintain collaborative learning and research networks
• excellent administrative skills and computer literacy
• an understanding of the World Association of Sexual Health Sexual Rights declaration and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN and its impact on the provision and practice of sexual health counselling and education
• membership (or eligibility) of at least one of SAS or ASSERT NSW (Sexual Health Counselling) and/or PHAA (Public Health)

Desirable:

• a research degree (PhD or MPhil)
• knowledge of public health and legal aspects as they relate sex, sexuality and sexual health
• accreditation as Sex Therapist (ASSERT NSW) or Associate or Clinical Psychosexual Therapist (SAS)
• accredited member of the Australian Counselling Association or a PACFA-Member Association
• publications in peer reviewed journals and other professional publications
• evidence of the award of competitive grant awards.
