SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

Duties

The Research Scientist, New Variety Agronomy (NVA) is part of the Sustainable Systems research division within the South Australian Research & Development Institute.  The Research Scientist is expected to work effectively across science programs and research divisions to provide leadership and undertake research that has a focus on pulse crops but is multidisciplinary and adopts a systems approach to the research.

The Research Scientist NVA is responsible for fostering and enhancing research and development outcomes which will contribute to SARDI’s role of leading and conducting innovative research in crop, agronomy, evaluation, weed management and crop physiology. The ultimate aim is to enhance economic growth of innovative, modern, mechanised, broad acre cropping systems that underpin cropping based primary industries, sustain natural resources, improve food quality and enhance safety for the people of South Australia.  The position is base at Clare.

Salary: $90,029 - $108,105

Essential Qualifications:
For appoint at PO3
 Bachelor Degree in Agriculture or equivalent, with minimum 5 year’s relevant experience in agronomy.
For appoint at PO4 Bachelor Degree in Agriculture or equivalent, with minimum 10 year’s relevant experience in agronomy Use of common agriculture chemicals is required and a Chemcert chemical handler’s certificate or a willingness to obtain one is essential.

Special Conditions: Interstate and intrastate travel and some out of hour’s work, weekend and public holidays travel will be required.  A willingness and ability for occasional International travel will be of benefit to the position. A current Class C drivers licence is essential and a medium rigid (MR) truck licence would be of benefit.

This role involves field work and exposure to dust and pollen.
